West Ham United handed Aaron Wan-Bissaka boost amid £17m transfer development

West Ham United are just one of multiple clubs keeping a close eye on Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer – and they may just have been handed a boost in their pursuit.

The 26-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford, with Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth reporting [2 July] that he has not held talks over a new deal with Man United.

Wan-Bissaka made just 20 Premier League starts under Erik ten Hag this season, though there are no doubts over the defender’s abilities at the London Stadium, having once dubbed “incredible” by Alan Shearer.

According to the Daily Mail [8 July], the Hammers are not the only team to think so, with Galatasaray also interested in the right-back’s signature this summer.

It comes as no surprise to see several clubs taking an interest in the player’s contract situation five years after joining the Red Devils in a £50million deal, as per BBC Sport, but West Ham have just been handed a transfer boost.

While Galatasaray have been linked with the defender, the club’s Board of Directors Accountant Member, Ibrahim Hatipoglu, has spoken out, admitting that they are unable to afford Man United’s £17million price tag [Fotospor, 15 July].

With the Hammers targeting Wan-Bissaka to bolster Julen Lopetegui’s right-back options, as per The Times [26 June], they are much more likely to splash the cash that Galatasaray are unable to this summer.

West Ham backtrack on Wan-Bissaka?

Following Ben Johnsons’ inevitable exit to Ipswich Town, Vladimir Coufal is the only right-back option currently, and even he has been linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

With almost 200 Premier League appearances across spells with Crystal Palace and Man United, he would add a lot of experience to the Hammers’ backline and, now in the final year of his contract, could be available for cheap this summer.

In other West Ham news, Arsenal have named their price for Emile Smith Rowe this summer.
