West Ham United given green light to sign Chelsea ace Ian Maatsen in January, David Moyes must go for it

West Ham certainly had a fantastic summer transfer window, which is a superb achievement given how it began with the loss of Declan Rice.

But David Moyes and the powers that be at the London Stadium did not sulk at the decision of their midfield maestro to join Arsenal.

The East London club instead recruited expertly to bring the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus in the door.

They have certainly excited Hammers fans, but the West Ham faithful may not be satisfied just yet, with Moyes perhaps needing to do further business in January to keep the momentum going.

And one player he could turn to is Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen, who has made 12 appearances for the Blues in all competitions this season.

As per 90min (18 December), West Ham have expressed an interest in the 21-year-old, with Chelsea now prepared to part ways with the player in January.

Given his current level of ability, his potential and indeed his versatility, it is a move that Moyes must sanction next month.

Maatsen has proven that he can operate at left-back and at left-wing, with the Hammers undoubtedly light in both of those areas.

The second half of the season has proven to be a tough time for Moyes, with the manager under severe pressure last time out as his side thrived in Europe but struggled domestically.

That was in no small part due to the manager not having a big and talented squad to meet the demands of such a busy schedule.

But that could be changed with the signature of Maatsen, who will not only provide ideal cover now but could be viewed as a key player at the London Stadium for future years.

In other West Ham news, Daniel Sturridge and Roy Keane were in agreement over an incident in the match against Wolves, with a “WWE” verdict shared.
