West Ham United fans will be furious as Darwin Nunez transfer blunder shared

West Ham will be furious with the latest Darwin Nunez developments after they missed out on signing th Benfica e centre-forward in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old bagged 38 goals across all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign – including six in the Champions League as Benfica reached the quarter-finals.

Fabrizio Romano said on the Wondergoal podcast on May 11 that Irons missed out on singing the goal machine by just £8.5million.

The Uruguay international is now set to join Premier League rivals, Liverpool, with the deal said to be all but done, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola.

The Hammers could have got a bargain in the last window with Nunez now set to go to Anfield in a deal potentially worth £85million.

Miss of the century.

This is potentially one of the toughest transfer failures to take in West Ham’s recent history.

Admittedly, it did seem too good to be true when the reports were circulating in January but Romano’s most recent update is a huge blow to David Moyes and co.

West Ham

A report by Claret & Hugh says that the Scot would have “unquestionably” signed the forward if he had a realistic chance and it turns out he did – the club were just too tight to spend an extra £8.5million.

He could have been a star at the London Stadium and taken the Hammers to the next level.

After all, he has all of the qualities the east London outfit are looking for in a player and more.

The fans will be furious that more of an effort wasn’t made to sign Nunez but there is still time for the whole saga to be forgotten about.

If the club make the right moves ahead of the 2022/23 season – they will surely be forgiven but that is a big if.
