West Ham United dealt double blow as Denis Zakaria and Yunus Musah make transfer decisions

West Ham are in desperate need of a new midfielder, with the East London club having said goodbye to Declan Rice earlier this summer.

The beloved Hammers captain has penned a long-term deal with Premier League rivals Arsenal, leaving a huge hole at West Ham, both on and off the pitch.

And despite plenty of time passing since Rice’s exit, along with the small matter of the £105million in the bank thanks to his sale, the Hammers are seemingly no further along in acquiring a suitable replacement.

Two players seemingly in the running to take over from the England international are Denis Zakaria and Yunus Musah, but the latest developments regarding the midfield duo suggest that the Hammers will not get their way with either player.

Dharmesh Sheth reported on Thursday (27 July) that dialogue remains open between West Ham and Juventus midfielder Zakaria, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea.

But TuttoJuve claimed on Sunday (30 July) that the Hammers and the Serie A club are “still far away” on an agreement for the 26-year-old.

And that blow comes amid another, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on Sunday that Valencia ace Musah has agreed a deal to join AC Milan, with medical tests set to take place next week.

According to Calciomercato (6 July), West Ham were interested in bringing the USA international to the London Stadium this summer.

Perhaps hope remains over transfers for the likes of Southampton star James Ward-Prowse or Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher, but these blows will not go down well with the powers that be at the East London club.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes has mooted an important first-team role next season for a youngster the club like “a lot.”
