West Ham United could miss out on sell-on fee as Felipe Anderson edges closer to Juventus transfer

Former West Ham ace Felipe Anderson is edging closer to an exit from Lazio, with Juventus watching, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian news outlet reported [9 December] that there is uncertainty over whether Anderson will agree on a new deal in Rome, given the interest from Juventus, meaning he could make the move for free.

According to West Ham news outlet Claret & Hugh [19 December], the Hammers board had negotiated a sell-on clause when the Brazilian left East London, but they will miss out if he leaves for free.

This will be a frustrating development for the board at West Ham if it happens after they already took a huge hit to allow the Brazilian to rejoin Lazio after signing him for a club-record £35million at the time before he left for just £4million. [The Guardian]

When agreeing to his sale with the sell-on fee, the board and transfer team at West Ham would have been expecting at least a small transfer windfall as a result of their efforts and agreement to agree to a cut-price deal, but may now be left disappointed.

Juventus, as well as clubs from Saudi Arabia, are reportedly interested in securing his signature and are tempted by the opportunity of a free transfer, suggesting the deal will be off the table altogether if any fee was involved – bad news for the Hammers.

The Calciomercato report suggests there is still the option for Anderson to sign a new deal and remain at Lazio after all, despite interest from Juventus as well as Saudi Arabian clubs, so there remains hope for the Hammers that their negotiations will have been worth it.
