West Ham United can expect Kalvin Phillips transfer decision in days as Fabrizio Romano ‘key moments’ update emerges

It hasn’t exactly been an electric January transfer window so far for West Ham United, with David Moyes admitting that the Irons need to move players on before adding to their squad.

Although the window has been open for 20 days, the only major outgoing at the London Stadium has been the initial loan exit of Thilo Kehrer, with the German joining Ligue 1 against Monaco temporarily, with the deal including a permanent option.

However, it finally seems as though there could be some movement on the incoming front, with suggestions emerging that the Irons are keen on securing the services of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the season.

Daily Mirror journalist Ryan Taylor reported on Friday (19 January) that the Irons are now in the “box seat” to sign the England international this month after Newcastle United failed to warm to the Premier League champions’ financial side of the deal.

While it hasn’t yet been confirmed that West Ham will be keen to match City’s financial terms, it appears as though a deal could be decided within the coming days.

Fabrizio Romano reported via his Daily Briefing column on Saturday (20 January) that talks are ongoing between Manchester City and clubs, with these being the “key moments” in completing any potential transfer deal, as they await Phillips’ decision in the coming days.

The transfer specialist remains confident that the England international will depart the Etihad before the end of the January transfer window and that could mean that they will know whether they have won the race for Phillips’ signature sooner rather than later.

If West Ham sign the 28-year-old, they will have added some much-needed depth to their midfield ranks, but if they miss out, they will have a little over a week of the transfer window to move on and focus on other targets.

Either way, it seems that Moyes and the Hammers won’t have to wait too much longer to know whether or not they’ll complete their first signing of the January transfer window.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers could make a permanent move for Phillips this summer for up to £40million
