West Ham United avoid costly transfer mistake after what happened to Jesse Lingard at FC Seoul
West Ham have had a mixed time of it in recent transfer windows, with not all of their new recruits hitting the ground running.
That has certainly been the case for January arrival Kalvin Phillips, who joined on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season.
Summer signing Konstantinos Mavropanos hasn’t exactly won over the London Stadium faithful either, but fellow summer arrivals James Ward-Prowse, Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus undoubtedly have.
Almost joining them in East London was Jesse Lingard, who did, of course, previously enjoy a superb spell in claret and blue.
The Hammers were among the clubs watching the former Manchester United ace as recently as January, but he ended up joining South Korean side FC Seoul.
Lingard has, however, now already come under fire from his new manager, just three matches into his spell in the K League.
West Ham right not to bring Jesse Lingard to the London Stadium
Despite a 2-0 win against Jeju on Saturday (16 March), FC Seoul boss Kim Gi-dong has publicly criticised his new player.
“Even though he came on as a substitute, he didn’t work hard and avoided tussle,” said Gi-dong, as quoted by Sky Sports. “The name value has no meaning on the pitch. I will tell him this exactly.”
The attacker really has struggled to find his feet lately, with his fine Manchester United and West Ham days now likely behind him.

And given his fresh issues not long into his latest deal, it would have been a costly mistake to bring the former England international back to East London, in every sense.
In other West Ham news, journalist Ben Jacobs has issued a transfer stance on one London Stadium-linked attacker.
