West Ham ‘to seal perfect summer signing’ for Graham Potter
Graham Potter seems to have identified his preferred style of play, and West Ham, and one signing would be perfect for his system.
All in all, West Ham have had an uneventful campaign, though there have been improvements on the pitch ever since Potter was appointed at the London Stadium.
Dating back to their 1-0 win against Arsenal, Potter has utilised a back five formation, providing a license for the two wide centre-backs to get forward and contribute on the ball.
Aaron Cresswell has thrived in that system, though the Hammers could make it far more effective with the signing of a Serie A defender.

Potter surely dreaming of Koni De Winter signing
Recruitment will be key for the Irons this summer, amid links to Genoa’s centre-back and Belgian international Koni De Winter.
At just 22 years old, De Winter has years of development ahead of him, having already made a name for himself in Italy’s top flight.
His ability on the ball suits the current West Ham style perfectly, while his versatility is also a handy asset, given his ability to play across a back three or at right back.
Genoa | Appearances | Tackles | Duels | Pass accuracy |
Koni De Winter | 17 | 16 | 98 | 85.2% |
While the likes of Cresswell and Max Kilman have impressed in the system, the need for a further injection of quality is evident if West Ham are to stick with that style of play.
Of course, depending on results between now and the end of the campaign, Potter may opt for something different, which could change their stance on the Belgian.

West Ham recruitment will be pivotal this summer
With the current campaign fizzling out to nothing, the need for good decision-making has never been higher at the London Stadium.
West Ham have the foundations of a European team, with a manager who has showcased his ability to get a team challenging there, but without proper investment and smart recruitment, those days will be a distant memory.
Recruitment will be the key to any success in the new season, and it is absolutely essential that past errors aren’t repeated at West Ham.
