West Ham should try and sign Daniel Sturridge on a free

The transfer window has closed, and West Ham failed to add another first-team striker, meaning that the Hammers are relying on Michail Antonio to stay fit.

However, they can still bring in players who are out of contract or don’t have a club at the moment, and one available striker is Daniel Sturridge.

We think that Sturridge would be a good addition to David Moyes’ squad on a short-term pay-as-you-play deal.

The 32-year-old is a proven Premier League goalscorer, having rattled in 77 goals in 218 appearances for various clubs.

Yes, he hasn’t played in the English top-flight for a while, but he is a born goalscorer, and if the Hammers could keep him fit, he could prove to be a wise signing.

Sturridge has had injury issues, and therefore, a pay-as-you-play deal would make sense as it should keep the former Chelsea forward motivated and determined to stay fit [Daily Mail].

The Hammers have been linked with a move for Sturridge in the past, and now would be the ideal time to reignite that interest [Football.London].

He has also been described as “brilliant” by Jurgen Klopp in the past [Sky Sports].

Antonio would remain first-choice and would play most of the Hammers’ games, but Sturridge would provide an option off the bench or someone who could be used in rotation with Antonio.

Also, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma buzzing around behind him, you would think he could score a good number of goals.

Yes, he isn’t getting any younger, but we feel as if the Irons could do a lot worse than sign Sturridge as a short-term option.

In other West Ham news, a report has shared why the Irons didn’t sign one England international.
