West Ham United transfer news with Jeremy Doku move set to fail

West Ham are set to miss out in their pursuit of Rennes star Jeremy Doku, with Manchester City hoping to complete a deal this week, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano shared via his Twitter account on 21 August that Manchester City have placed a £51.3million bid which is now being discussed with Rennes as the two clubs advance towards a deal for the Belgian winger.

West Ham had been optimistic about tempting the player to move to East London despite City’s interest, with the offer of first-team football [The Guardian, 20 August] but now look set to miss out.

Another miss for the Hammers

West Ham have missed out on several players this summer, with Doku now set to be the latest on the list, after David Moyes expressed his disappointment at missing out on first-choice options ahead of their clash v Chelsea on 20 August.

Missing out on Doku is no real surprise given the relative stature and financial power of Manchester City, but the club’s optimism behind getting a deal done will ultimately be for nothing if they do miss out on another key target.

This could be the second big-name and big-money target the Hammers have missed out on in the last couple of days, after The Guardian [20 August] claimed their move for Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus is now in major doubt over issues with the price tag.

West Ham

West Ham will now have to turn their attention to other targets as they look to add more pace and dynamism to the wide areas, having previously been linked with a move for PSV winger Johan Bakayoko, who fits that mould perfectly.

In other West Ham news, there has been a fresh update in the club’s £40m+ transfer bid.
