West Ham on red alert as Regis Le Bris speaks out on Dan Neil’s future
Dan Neil has been linked with a move to West Ham, with his future at Sunderland looking bleak.
With the arrivals of Taty Castellanos and Pablo, West Ham have bolstered their attacking options for Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, there are still several other areas of the squad that will need attention in January, with midfield reinforcements one of them.
Sunderland’s Neil has been linked with a move to West Ham, with Regis Le Bris addressing the situation in his latest press conference.
Transfer decision lies with Dan Neil amid West Ham interest
Neil isn’t going to be the type of signing to get you off your seat, but, for once, it would actually be a smart piece of business from West Ham.
The 24-year-old has been frozen out at Sunderland, but still has plenty of ability and room to grow, and for what would likely be a cut-price deal, it would be a good move.
His arrival would have very little risk to it, with plenty of room for reward.
Rangers, FC Koln and Sheffield United are all said to be interested, though Le Bris has revealed that the decision will lie with Neil.
Speaking ahead of Sunderland’s clash with Crystal Palace, the Frenchman said: “He’s still connected with the club, he’s in a specific part of his career, I think it’s true. At the same time, you have to make a choice and not only your choice because it’s connected with another project.
“At the moment, he’s still at Sunderland. It’s a tough position because we want to respect everyone. He is still important for the group. “You don’t know exactly what you can expect from the market, so it’s tough.”
West Ham could scupper David Moyes’ plans with Neil move
While a move to Merseyside looks unlikely, Neil had been linked with a move to Everton in the summer, as well as a move to Liverpool a few seasons back.
David Moyes, having likely known Neil as a youngster throughout his time at Sunderland, was said to be an admirer of the midfielder.
Now, with just six months left on his deal at the Stadium of Light, West Ham could get him signficantly cheaper than the Toffees would have in the summer.
Given the lack of experience he has had in the Premier League, many will see the transfer as an acceptance of relegation.
However, it would be a move that would suit all parties, no matter the outcome at the end of the campaign.
