West Ham need to make CNN pundit eat his words about Hammers-linked manager
West Ham need to make Maniche eat his words after he suggested that Sergio Conceicao wouldn’t join a club like the Hammers.
The East London club take on Wolves on Monday [9 December] in a game that could have serious ramifications for Julen Lopetegui’s tenure at the London Stadium depending on the result.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding the boss’ future, one name that has been linked as a possible successor is former Porto boss Conceicao.
However, former Portugal player Maniche told CNN [3 December]: “I find it hard to believe that Sergio Conceicao would accept a club like West Ham, who are in 14th place, or Nantes.
“[What he chooses next] depends a lot on what Sergio Conceicao wants for his career. To continue winning titles, as he did at FC Porto, or to save teams that are being relegated?
“If he thinks he has been out of action for a long time and he can no longer do without coaching, that will also weigh on his decision.
“What is certain is that, after what he won at FC Porto, I assume he is thinking about a team that fights for titles and not teams that are fighting to be relegated.”
Could Sergio Conceicao help West Ham compete again?
This season has been disappointing for West Ham so far and despite his arrival at the start of the campaign, Lopetegui has struggled to get the Hammers going.
Their start to the campaign has left the East London outfit sitting only six points ahead of the relegation zone meaning if they don’t pick up their form in the second half of the season, they could easily be pulled into a relegation battle.

That being said, it feels as though Maniche is looking at the Hammers with a limited view. It wasn’t too long ago that we were watching the side under David Moyes competing in the UEFA Conference League and going on to win the competition and also competing admirably in the Europa League.
Therefore, this is proof that if the right person is in charge at the London Stadium then West Ham are a side with the ability to compete in the right half of the Premier League.
Conceicao has shown he is a winner himself with Porto and this would be a great appointment for the Hammers if they are looking to make a change.
