West Ham must do all they can to sign Ramy Bensebaini
West Ham have to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach left-back Ramy Bensebaini after Corriere dello Sport reported that the Irons want to sign the 26-year-old.
The report claims that West Ham will face strong competition from Roma to sign Bensebaini, but the Algerian has “no intention of extending” his contract with the Bundesliga side beyond 2023 when the deal expires.
This should serve as some encouragement for the Hammers, as should his price tag of 20million Euros [£17.1million], which could be an absolute bargain for a player like Bensebaini.

This is a player who has in the past been hailed for his “explosiveness” by his former manager Christian Gourcuff and the Hammers could do with adding that sort of player to their squad [Bundesliga official site].
The 26-year-old scored a whopping seven goals in all competitions for Gladbach during the 2020/21 season and what makes this even more impressive is that he spent most of those games as a left-back or at centre-back [WhoScored].
So he clearly knows where the back of the net is and WhoScored list his strongest attribute as winning aerial duels, which given West Ham’s strength from set-pieces, means he could prove to be a very handy addition.

Of course, the Hammers have Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell as their main options at left-back, depending on what formation David Moyes decides to play.
So if we compare Masuaku to Bensebaini, we can see that the Algerian played a lot more games than Masuaku, perhaps suggesting that he isn’t as injury prone as the 27-year-old [WhoScored]. Defensively Bensebaini was also better than Masuaku for interceptions per game, while they both made the same amount of tackles per match.
So, there isn’t much between the two, but because of his aerial threat and goalscoring ability, a move for Bensebaini to potentially replace Masuaku would make perfect sense as the Irons look to build on their sixth-place finish.
