West Ham move for Alphonse Areola suggests past mistakes rectified

West Ham are hopeful of securing the signing of Paris-Saint Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola this summer amid interest from rival clubs.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Seth said via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday 14 June that the Hammers will trigger the £11million option once they sort out the personal terms.

Seth shared that there is a willingness among all parties to reach an agreement.

However, the danger is not over yet.

RMCSport on 14 June report that Newcastle United have made an official approach, and they are looking to hijack the deal.

While we don’t know how the situation will unfold, it gives an impression that the Hammers are being sensible in the transfer market.

In the past, the Hammers have missed out on quite a number of importanttargets due to poor transfer strategies, but it seems the scenario is a bit different this time. They have hesitated when firm decisions needed to be taken and lost players to other clubs in the process.

West Ham are ready to fight tooth and nail to sign the sign Areola who spent time last season (2021-22) on loan at the London Stadium.

Yes, it’s true that he was not the first-choice keeper and that he was reduced to cup games, but his situation could reverse next season. The Frenchman could be the first-choice goalkeeper at the club.

The Hammers are ready to meet PSG’s asking price as well which shows the club is absolutely determined to get him this summer.

They are working on a plan, which reflects the continuity under David Moyes. Areola impressed in the Europa League season, and Moyes has noticed his qualities closely.

The Magpies can definitely offer him better wages, but the Hammers can offer him regular games and European football, which could be a big pulling factor.
