West Ham may live to regret transfer decision amid fresh Niclas Fullkrug development

West Ham may regret losing Divin Mubama at the end of his contract after Niclas Fullkrug picked up an injury on international duty.

It was initially feared the German star suffered an Achilles injury in training for his nation but it was later reported that he had suffered a bruise to his ankle.

Fullkrug will still miss the upcoming clash against Fulham on Saturday (14 September), though, leaving Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as the likely options to play up top.

Given both players have faced uncertainty over their future and Fullkrug was brought in to be the main man up top, the Hammers may now have some regrets that they weren’t able to tie down Mubama to a new deal at the end of last season.

West Ham may have Divin Mubama regret after Niclas Fullkrug news

The 19-year-old left the London Stadium over the summer and completed a surprise move to Manchester City as a project player for their academy.

This came after the forward rejected a contract offer with fresh terms from the Irons and opted for a move to the Premier League champions [Manchester Evening News].

With the latest injury to Fullkrug, there may be some regret that a deal couldn’t be struck to keep Mubama at the club as he would have provided a younger and fresher option.

With the ex-Dortmund star missing, Antonio is potentially the only fit striker at the club after Ings was absent from the squad against Manchester City.

It is safe to say that this leaves Lopetegui’s squad light and if the Jamaica international were to suffer his own injury, there would be real problems.

These issues could have been avoided if the club had done more to entice their academy product to stay on at the London Stadium with assurances of more game time.
