West Ham can hit jackpot by signing Matt O’Riley after ‘incredible’ Celtic development

West Ham United could secure an excellent signing by beating Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Matt O’Riley from Celtic in the summer transfer window.

GIVEMESPORT have reported (14 May) that the Hammers are showing an interest in the Dane while Ange Postecoglou seeks out a reunion with his former player at Tottenham.

The midfielder has had an excellent spell with Celtic, helping them clinch yet another Scottish Premiership title on Wednesday (15 May).

He picked up an assist for the Hoops’ opener in a 5-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park to seal top spot in Scotland, which certainly left Julie Fleeting impressed on BBC Sport Sportsound (15 May, 7:43 pm).

The former Scotland Women player said: “The ball from Matt O’Riley is incredible, in that space between the defence and goalkeeper that is so hard to defend. It’s an easy finish, all in the pass.”

Should West Ham sign Matt O’Riley?

The Denmark international has been heavily involved in any success that Brendan Rogers’ side has achieved in this campaign.

O’Riley has made 36 appearances so far this season in which he has scored 15 goals and assisted 13 [FotMob].

These stats are extremely impressive when you consider that he is a 23-year-old, box-to-box central midfielder.

He is great at picking passes through the lines to create chances for the forwards in his team while also being proficient in laying the ball off for teammates.

As well as picking passes, he is also more than useful with the ball at his feet when given the opportunity to drive forward with the ball at his feet.

He may also rival James Ward-Prowse for set piece duty should he sign as he likes to take free kicks and penalties for Celtic.

He could prove to be an excellent piece of business to play under whichever manager takes up the role at the London Stadium.
