West Ham are going to get relegated, but new developments show the blame is not with Nuno

West Ham’s inability to see the obvious weakness in their squad is going to be the reason they play in the Championship next season.

West Ham are already seven points adrift of safety in the Premier League, and based on recent performances, it’s hard to see that gap doing anything other than increase.

The Hammers have been woeful from top to bottom. Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactics have been exposed, a lack of goals has been a major issue, and the defensive mishaps have cost the Irons on a weekly basis.

Now we sit 11 days into the January transfer window, and West Ham are yet to address the biggest concern of them all.

West Ham are ignoring blatant transfer priority

Taty Castellanos and Pablo have both already made the move to the London Stadium, bolstering the attacking options that Nuno has.

Now, West Ham have made a £6million bid to sign Alpha Toure, a 19-year-old midfielder playing his football for FC Metz in Ligue 1.

However, the Hammers, for a reason completely unknown, have yet to push forward with interest in signing a single defender.

What makes that even more concerning is the fact that they have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, with a shocking 43 goals conceded from 21 games.

The Irons are averaging over two goals conceded per game, and yet they’re targetting everything other than defensive arrivals.

Nuno has to take some blame for the way he has handled the situation, but he is simply being hung out to dry by those above him who quite evidently have no idea what they are doing.

West Ham need a complete rebuild

This isnt just a recruitment perspective, nor is it just a managerial perspective – West Ham need a change from top to bottom.

David Sullivan has run this club into the ground with his decisions over the last five years, and his inability to install a recruitment team with a clear plan in mind has directly contributed to the failures we are witnessing on the pitch each and every week.

However, the only way that rebuild is likely to happen is if West Ham are relegated to the Championship.

It’s a situation that no one wants to face, but it may be for the greater good if it means that this club can return to where it has always strived to be.
