View: West Ham United should reignite interest in Kristjan Asllani after latest report from Inter Milan

West Ham were heavily linked to Kristjan Asllani in the summer, and the Albanian midfielder seems to be regretting his decision to move to Inter Milan instead.

The Hammers were desperate for midfield reinforcement in the summer and ended the transfer window having added Lucas Paqueta to the squad.

But David Moyes was also keen on bringing 20-year-old Asllani to the London Stadium over the summer [Calcio Mercato]. However, he snubbed the Hammers in favour of a move to Italy.

However, Tuttomercato are now reporting that he’s unhappy at Inter due to his lack of playing time and could request a move in January.

That opens up a great opportunity for West Ham, who will want to invest over the winter after a mediocre start to the Premier League campaign.

No-brainer

Despite Paqueta’s arrival, West Ham still find themselves short in central midfield, with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek shouldering a lot of the responsibility for Moyes’ side.

However, that duo will eventually need to be rotated, and while Flynn Downes offers some competition West Ham are still short in midfield.

On top of that, Soucek has often looked poor in midfield but Moyes has very little choice but to keep fielding him week-in, week-out.

Asllani would provide much-needed competition in midfield, and it would guarantee him the game time he so desperately craves after being left out in Milan.

The only stumbling block could be whether Inter want to let him go. He was clearly valued highly at Inter over the summer and they’d be unlikely to let him go at a cut price.

A loan deal could be on the cards, but Moyes could instead opt to bring in a more long-term midfielder in January if that is the case.
