View: West Ham mainstay surely set for extended absence after missing win v Leicester
West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal enjoyed the perfect debut last week in the 3-0 win against Leicester City.
The Czech international was thrown straight into the deep end after Ryan Fredericks was ruled out through an injury picked up against Wolves.
David Moyes was delighted with Coufal, claiming that his ability to jump into his new side only days after signing was “incredible”.
Fredericks is set to recover over the international break and should be available for selection against Spurs next week.
Despite him cementing his spot in recent years at the London Stadium, the right-back is surely set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Coufal is simply undroppable at this moment in time, even after only one game – he was that impressive against the Foxes.
The 28-year-old earned the top spot in terms of average WhoScored match rating in the entire Hammers squad after just one outing.
Fredericks has made 28 starts since the beginning of last season and has nailed down his spot without any injuries until recently.
It seems harsh to say that his spot has now been taken, but that is the harsh reality of the Premier League and the quality available at teams now.
Coufal deserves to keep his spot, and we fully expect him to against Spurs – another massive test after wins against Wolves and Leicester.
The Czech defender may not have been the big name some were expecting through the doors diring this window, but he has made a massive impact already.
