View: West Ham must utilise set pieces v Leicester City

West Ham must look to exploit Leicester’s biggest weakness as they prepare for their Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes have been absolutely terrible at defending set pieces this season with ten goals conceded from corners with another eight conceded from freekicks – equalling their total from last season with a whopping 17 games still to play.

Whereas the Hammers have been banging them in form dead ball scenarios with only Liverpool scoring more goals from corners.

Undoubtedly David Moyes and co would have been working on set pieces all week being fully aware of Leicester’s shortcomings in the area as the Irons look to maintain the pace of the top four brawl.

No surprise

Before the Hammers were the free-flowing attacking outfit they are today, set pieces were hugely important for scoring goals and getting results – and they are which is why the team worked so hard on them.

It doesn’t matter how the goals go in as long as they do, and West Ham have taken their set-piece play to a new level this year and it’s clear to see why.

There are players in the squad with amazing crossing ability that can put the ball on a plate for those in the box. Aaron Cresswell, Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini have been excellent with their dead ball deliveries all season.

Make no mistake, the ball still needs putting in the back of the net and luckily enough we have plenty of hungry giants in the box waiting for a sniff of a chance.

The Irons have a really tall team with Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice, Kurt Zouma and Michail Antonio all proof in the pudding.

The Hammers should be able to come away from Sundays (February 13) clash unscathed but having set pieces to boost their confidence will do them the world of good.
