View: West Ham must do all they can to sign Calvert-Lewin

West Ham must move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as David Moyes searches for a striker in January.

The Scot, 58, has been afforded money to spend as the Hammers look to bolster their squad but is yet to narrow down any targets with the 24-year-old linked with an east London move [The Sun].

It is essential the Hammers bring in another attacker with Michail Antonio feeling the pressure as the team’s only recognised striker.

Calvert-Lewin would be the perfect replacement because not only does he slot effortlessly into Moyes’ system but he might have one eye on the back door as the situation at current club Everton goes from bad to worse.

The experienced Premier League striker is much less of a risk than the Irons other targets with a wealth of goals and experience in English football.

No panic buying

West Ham have been desperate for reinforcements up top since the departure of Sebastien Haller in 2021.

It is amazing the Hammers have done this well without any back up for Antonio. Credit must be handed to the 31-year-old who has done brilliantly by himself with little to no rest bite.

For only £60million Moyes has to move for DCL who has 52 goal involvements whilst playing for an underwhelming Everton team.

Can you imagine the damage the aerial threat dubbed ‘cold’ by previous manager Carlo Ancelotti would be at the London Stadium?

However, not signing the striker in January could work in the Irons favour.

If Everton find themselves relegated come the end of the season, that could slash their asking price for the Yorkshireman in half which would make the signing a steal.

Even if they aren’t relegated and they continue to struggle, that could have an impact on Calvert-Lewin’s form, again, driving his price down.

Something the Hammers should thoroughly consider in their hunt for a new striker.
