Tottenham fans might be to thank for exact moment fortunes changed with West Ham
West Ham’s chances of surviving Premier League relegation have dramatically shifted in recent weeks, and bitter rivals Tottenham may have had a hand in that.
Nuno Espirito Santo has done a remarkable job at London Stadium as of late, as the Hammers are now level on points with Nottingham Forest at the bottom of the table.
That run of form was sparked by a late winner scored by Callum Wilson against Tottenham back in January.
However, it may have been the Spurs supporters that actually sparked the belief and fire back into the Hammers.

How Tottenham fans have given West Ham a positive jinx
There is no love lost between Tottenham and West Ham fans, with the two London clubs wishing nothing but the worst for each other.
That was evident not too long ago when Spurs fans were heard chanting about the Hammers’ poor form across the season.
The Lilywhites faithful were chanting about West Ham not winning another game of football, but it has been the Irons that have had the last laugh.
During the period when Spurs’ fans were singing that chant, the Hammers had not won in over 10 matches.
However, irony would strike with Tottenham allowing Nuno to turn the ship around as West Ham beat the North London club 2-1.
Since then, the roles have completely reversed, and it is now Tottenham who simply cannot win a game.
Spurs are winless in the Premier League since the start of 2026, and West Ham have now closed the gap to the N17 outfit from 13 behind them to just one point.
It seems the mocking from their rivals has fuelled the fire in the belly of those in E20, in both the players and the staff.
Additionally, Hammers fans will now be feeling more confident they can finish above Spurs, as they have not looked back since.
How do West Ham and Tottenham’s next five fixtures compare?
Irons fans will be looking at the upcoming weeks and viewing it as difficult to overtake Tottenham due to their own fixtures.
However, Spurs have not been helped out too much with the schedule either.
When West Ham take on Man City, Tottenham will have to face Liverpool. Then when the Hammers play Aston Villa, it is a relegation six-pointer for Spurs against Nottingham Forest.
| West Ham’s next five PL matches | Tottenham’s next five PL matches |
| Man City (H) | Liverpool (A) |
| Aston Villa (A) | Nottingham Forest (H) |
| Wolves (H) | Sunderland (A) |
| Crystal Palace (A) | Brighton (H) |
| Everton (H) | Wolves (A) |
While the thought of losing their next two matches against two sides in the top 5 is a fair one to have, the Hammers could very well still remain just one point behind Tottenham.
If Nuno can inspire more belief and cause an upset, the East London club could even go above Spurs. At the moment, the North London club do not look like they could even buy a win.
