Tim Steidten to be on red alert after Barcelona update in West Ham United race for Jaden Philogene

West Ham United have already been linked with a whole host of players in the summer transfer window following Julen Lopetegui’s appointment.

So far, the only two senior stars through the door at the London Stadium are Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham, but the former Wolves manager is understood to be keen to add a number of new faces.

The priority area remains strengthening in attack and although a new number nine is top of most supporters’ shopping lists, Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is also understood to be on the agenda [Daily Mail, 28 June].

Alongside Premier League rivals Everton, the Hammers are understood to be eager to bring the former Aston Villa man back to the top flight.

However, Tim Steidten and his recruitment team will now have to be on red alert after an update emerged from Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg around Barcelona’s interest in the 22-year-old.

Writing on X on Sunday (30 June) he said: “Been told the interest of FC Barcelona in Jaden #Philogene is very concrete now! Barcelona have submitted an official offer to Hull City!

“One-year loan with an obligation to buy (which is tied to certain conditions such as playing time) in 2025 of around €20-23m!

“Contract of the 22 y/o talented winger is valid until 2026. Barcelona have analyzed him in detail.”

Will West Ham United sign Jaden Philogene in the summer transfer window?

With an official offer now submitted to Hull from the Spanish giants, time will be running out for West Ham to get their proposal into the Tigers to try and bring Philogene to the London Stadium this summer.

The Championship side would likely prepare a fee upfront for the winger instead of a loan deal with an obligation to buy, which could give the Hammers the advantage over Barcelona who are looking to delay the payment.

So far, there has been no indication that Hull will be willing to accept Barcelona’s proposal, so Steidten still has a chance to swoop in and bring the 22-year-old to London ahead of the competition.

Hopefully, the Hammers won’t miss their chance to get this deal over the line.
