Steidten transfer failure more ridiculous at West Ham as Duran makes history

Tim Steidten has become a controversial figure at West Ham United over the last few seasons.

The technical director was clearly not a fan of working with David Moyes, rarely ever seeing eye-to-eye, and while there seems to be a better relationship with Julen Lopetegui, he is already looking at new managers [GiveMeSport].

It is no surprise to see so many supporters against the German, especially after a number of his summer transfers have failed to make any positive impact in the Premier League so far this term.

Niclas Fullkrug’s long-term injury caused a lot of frustration, so too has Luis Guilherme’s baffling absences from the starting XI, while Guido Rodriguez also looks to be a regretful signing.

However, the biggest of Steidten’s failures from the summer actually come in the form of a missed transfer – Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

The Hammers were linked heavily with the young Colombian but missed out on his signature after failing to meet the price tag [Fabrizio Romano], and the player in question is now ripping up the Premier League and Champions League.

Jhon Duran transfer decision continues to mock West Ham United

Following his goal against Manchester City on Saturday 21 December, Duran now has a goal every 82 minutes in the Premier League, giving him the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the division’s history [Eduardo Hagn].

With Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Fullkrug only totalling three Premier League goals this season, compared to Duran’s 12, Steidten’s transfer decision has been put to shame.

The 21-year-old would have been an incredible addition to Lopetegui’s squad, working alongside Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, but that ship has now sailed.

Instead, the Hammers will have to be patient as Fullkrug adapts to English football following months on the sidelines with an injury he sustained just weeks into life in East London.

Of course, hindsight is a fantastic tool, but it did not take a genius to work out that Duran would become a superstar over the next few months.
