Steidten has questions to answer as Fullkrug shares West Ham update
Tim Steidten has questions to answer at West Ham for signing Niclas Fullkrug.
The Hammers had a busy transfer window where Julen Lopetegui came in and was joined by an influx of 10 new signings.
Things haven’t quite worked out for the Spaniard at the London Stadium which has seen him come under pressure from supporters for poor results and performances.
With that being said, it could have been so different for the ex-Real Madrid boss if he had a prolific striker available to him but he has been without his marquee forward signing through injury.
Tim Steidten has Niclas Fullkrug questions to answer at West Ham
The Germany international looked set to be the new number nine for the Irons after scoring 15 last season for Borussia Dortmund.
Injuries have hampered his spell in East London but this shouldn’t come as a surprise given what Steidten knew before signing him.
In an interview with BILD (18 December) the Hammers striker said: “Of course, I also had very intensive discussions about such a risky step.
“I communicated a lot with the coach, spoke a lot with Tim Steidten, who I know from my time at Bremen, which is how we got in touch so closely. Of course, we had completely different goals. Things were going really badly for me too, to put it bluntly.
“My Achilles tendon was inflamed and it was really annoying. I’ve had something like that before, it lasted six weeks, now it’s taken a bit longer and this phase is catastrophic. You just want to play and you feel like you’re close, but then there’s another setback.”
When a player describes a recurring injury as “catastrophic” it probably isn’t the wisest idea to sign them.

The 31-year-old clearly has an issue with his Achilles which he hasn’t been able to shake it in recent years and has only negatively affected the Hammers this season.
Ultimately, the blame for this has to be placed at Steidten’s door as it was his decision to sign a player who doesn’t look likely to positively impact Lopetegui’s side any time soon.
