Sky Sports share worrying West Ham stat ahead of Newcastle game
West Ham started with 10 of 11 players against Newcastle who were named in the starting lineup for their final game of last season.
After finishing in a remarkable sixth place, many expected the Hammers board to back the manager in the transfer market. However, they’ve signed only one player in Alphonse Areola who could strengthen the playing eleven.
While it was enough to get the job done and secure a 4-2 win over Newcastle on Sunday, it only papered over the cracks.
As of now, he’s likely to play second-fiddle to Lukasz Fabianski, meaning GSB have not given David Moyes the funds to strengthen his playing eleven.
Sky Sports wrote on their Twitter handle before yesterday’s game: “10 of West Ham’s starting line-up also started their final game last season – the only difference is Benrahma for loanee Lingard, who was directly involved in 13 of their final 31 PL goals last season.”
It’s shambolic, especially when a club of our calibre defied odds and were in the race to qualify for the Champions League until the final few weeks of last season.
We have a decent playing eleven that could finish in the top half this season, but all the clubs around us have strengthened their first teams and also added to their options in depth.

While some clubs tend to prioritise quality over quantity, we’ve got none at the moment, which is why players like Conor Coventry are unlikely to go out on loan and continue their development.
The board have let us down time and again and are never the ones who front up for their mistakes.
If we end up having a bad season, they’re going to blame Moyes for it and will possibly sack him, like that will change the decision-making process up in the boardroom.
Hopefully, we get a centre-back and striker over the line as soon as possible as we have the potential to qualify for Europe again and we must do everything we can to get that done.
