Sky Sports share financial details amid Ruben Amorim to West Ham United latest

West Ham are surely not likely to pursue a move for Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim due to his hefty release clause.

The Portuguese has emerged as an early favourite to replace David Moyes should the club part ways with their current boss in the summer.

However, speaking on Sky Sports News [23 April, 5:09pm], Solhekol pointed out that hiring Amorim will come with a big financial cost.

“He’s supposed to have a £15m release clause in his contract. I see it difficult West Ham paying that to get a manager,” Solhekol said.

The Irons do not have to pay off Moyes if he does indeed leave due to his current deal coming to an end next month.

However, handing over £15m for the Scotsman’s replacement does not seem like something David Sullivan will consider.

When you look at the ‘free’ options out there, with Julen Lopetegui being one such example, Sullivan will surely be more tempted by those.

That is not the way it should be. The club would spend £50million-plus on a perfect new striker, yet £15m for a new manager is deemed too much.

Maybe that explains why reported talks between Amorim and West Ham allegedly did not pan out the way the club had hoped.

If United are going to pay an eight-figure sum for a coach, especially one untested outside of Portugal, it has to be the perfect fit all around.

On that basis, it seems pretty obvious that the club’s focus will instead switch elsewhere in the search for Moyes’ replacement.
