Signing Joakim Maehle will make West Ham more lethal going forward
West Ham are working on a bid to sign Atalanta defender Joakim Maehle this summer, as reported by Paul Brown for Give Me Sport.
The Hammers have been in the market to sign players who will strengthen the side’s defensive attributes ahead of the next campaign.
On the other hand, Maehle was previously linked with a move to Everton in 2019 but the Liverpool-based club cooled down their interest.

The Denmark international, who joined the Italian club in the summer of 2020, has a contract with them till the summer of 2025.
Tremendous Fullback
Many Denmark fans would be looking forward to seeing Maehle in the World Cup in November as he is set to represent his country one more time.
If you look at his performances in Serie A, you cannot disagree on his inclusion in the Denmark side.
In the recently concluded season with Atalanta, the Denmark international played 26 games in the Serie A, scoring one goal and one assist [Transfermarkt].

He averaged 2.2 tackles per game in the 2021/22 Champions League, which is the highest at the club [Whoscored].
West Ham are going to be in four competitions again next season as they qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
With such a congested fixture list and a World Cup set to be played in the middle of the domestic season, the last thing they would want is a depleted squad.
Therefore, if they go after another good full-back, it will not just improve the performance of Ben Johnson but will also give the Irons another important option in that department.
Bringing in Maehle would no doubt make the Hammers more lethal going forward.
