Signing Christian Eriksen would be risky business for West Ham

West Ham have been strongly linked with a move for attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Hammers are in the market to sign a midfielder to strengthen their squad ahead of the next campaign after a more than impressive season and were on a scouting mission this week as Denmark took on Austria.

On the other hand, the 30-year-old is set to become a free agent after his six-month spell with Brentford and it is believed that he is keen to stay in the Premier League.

West Ham

A luxury player

Eriksen is an established name in the Premier League because of his outstanding performances in the past for Tottenham Hotspur where he scored 69 goals and provided 90 assists in 305 matches across all competitions [Transfermarkt]

To get a player like him will be tempting for any big club in the Premier League as he can prove to be a difference-maker at crucial junctures.

However, because of his health condition, Eriksen remains a luxury signing, considering that he is unlikely to play every game for the club whereas he never really had a great work rate, to begin with.

Also, signing him might hamper the development of the brilliant West Ham youngsters coming through the academy, something which should be the focus of the management going into a tough campaign.

Therefore, David Moyes must look somewhere else to strengthen the midfield instead of signing a player who is probably passed his prime, that too at a time when West Ham are pushing for a top-six finish every season.

In other West Ham news, a deal is on the cards to sign a forward who Moyes once compared to Wayne Rooney.
