Said Benrahma in 2/10 shocker, James Ward-Prowse shines with 6/10 – West Ham United player ratings v Bristol City

West Ham United crashed out of the FA Cup after a lacklustre 1-0 defeat to Bristol City in their third-round replay at Ashton Gate on Tuesday (16 January).

The Hammers made hard work of their task against The Robins when Konstantinos Mavropanos gave away a needless back pass to Lukasz Fabianksi which was punished by Tommy Conway, scoring into an empty net.

The second half brought more doom and gloom for David Moyes and his team as Said Benrahma was sent off for a dangerous kickout at Bristol City midfielder Joe Williams as the Hammers disappointingly crashed out of the FA Cup.

Here West Ham Zone rates the players out of 10 for their performances.

Lukasz Fabianski – 6

Could do nothing about Bristol City’s opener as he was massively let down by Mavropanos after his costly error. Made some crucial saves which kept the Hammers in the tie. Not his fault at all.

Vladimir Coufal – 4

Nowhere to be seen all game for the Hammers as the Czech international was given the runaround by the Bristol City attackers in a poor game for the experienced player. If this display doesn’t show Moyes that he needs an upgrade at right back, then West Ham are in trouble.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 3

West Ham

Just what he was doing for the Bristol City goal, West Ham United fans will never know. Has proven a steady and capable performer since his summer move but he completely lost his head in such a critical moment in the tie. So poor.

Kurt Zouma – 5

You’re only as good as the centre-back alongside you when the going gets tough and Zouma will be disappointed by the error-strewn Mavropanos next to him. It wasn’t a bad game from the Frenchman but all for one and one for all in a sorry defeat for Moyes’ team. Unlucky.

Aaron Cresswell – 4

West Ham

A player on his last legs at the London Stadium and his lack of opportunities and minutes under Moyes this season was clearly evident as he was guilty of some sloppy and slack passing which is very disappointing given his experience. Maybe the last start for the Hammers veteran.

Emerson – 6

One West Ham’s better performers as he tried to create moments in the final third with some inventive and imagination drives into attack. Cannot be blamed for a lacklustre showing in front of goal.

Tomas Soucek – 6

West Ham

Had an almighty chance to bring the Hammers level late in the second half but for a brilliant save from the Bristol City goalkeeper. Not his best showing once again as he was totally dominated in the middle of the park. Moyes may need an upgrade on him too despite his new contract.

James Ward-Prowse – 6

The Hammers were poor all evening but Ward-Prowse will be proud of his showing as he tried to conjure up some inspiration from midfield. Was not helped by the lack of urgency and quality around him.

Maxwel Cornet – 4

West Ham

Like Coufal, West Ham United fans may not remember what he did all evening as he was nowhere to be seen in yet another stinker from the Frenchman who could also be leaving the club very soon. So poor.

Said Benrahma – 2

West Ham

Dreadful decision to lash out at Joe Williams after he was brought down from a bad challenge. Showed a lack of maturity and professionalism to lash out the way he did and he deserved his red card. Linked with a move way this month (L’Equipe, 30 December) and that may well be his last action in a West Ham shirt. Shocker.

Danny Ings – 5

Another player who’s been linked with a move away and he never showed he can fill in for the injured Jarrod Bowen in attack. Had a great chance to pull the game level when he was put through in the box but tried to pass rather than shoot which represents his lack of confidence right now.
