Said Benrahma exit at West Ham United surely now nailed on in January, David Moyes is ruining his career

West Ham United forward Said Benrahma may well be growing incredibly frustrated by his lack of game time at the London Stadium this season which means a January exit could well be on the cards.

The former Brentford forward has started five games in all competitions so far this season with just 326 minutes of Premier League action under his belt since the new campaign got underway after playing an integral role throughout last season, featuring in 50-odd games.

Former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport on 29 September insisted that the Algerian international is “feeling let down” at his current role in East London, such is the fierce competition in David Moyes’ squad right now.

While the Algerian international may be quelling the need to lash out every time he isn’t picked in the Hammers starting line-up, it’s always been a problem of his at the club given his lack of consistency.

The former Brentford man will feel Moyes is ruining his chance at developing and improving his game through match experience and there may well be chances to achieve that elsewhere.

Moyes may be perfectly justified in his decision to drop him now and again but it’s a problem which could simmer into an inevitable exit before long.

New arrivals such as Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse and Konstantinos Mavropanos not only provide some brilliant depth to this West Ham United squad but should also serve as a warning to every player at the club that they can be displaced.

Improved squad depth will be valuable to the Hammers as they look to compete across all four tournaments this season, including in Europe, but Benrahma still hasn’t even got a look in with his last West Ham United start coming in the EFL Cup win over Lincoln City at the end of September.

The former Brentford forward will have certainly felt that his increased role last season meant he’d be guaranteed starts this time around but that certainly hasn’t happened, with Moyes deploying Lucas Paqueta in a free-form left-sided role so far this campaign – a move which certainly suggests he isn’t confident in the likes of Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Maxwel Cornet.

The Algerian forward will certainly feel he’s at an age where he needs to be playing regularly at the top level, but whether he can convince Moyes between now and January that he can contribute heavily this season is growing increasingly uncertain.

A player of Benrahma’s qualities is certainly wasted out on the bench every week and should an opportunity arise in the January transfer window, the Algerian forward is surely nailed on to quit his current predicament and jump at the chance.
