Rashford transfer: West Ham could make move after Man Utd update v Arsenal

West Ham will surely be hopeful of more optimistic times ahead after the appointment of Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui.

However, there is plenty of work to be done which will require patience with the new boss who might be limited in the signings he can make during the transfer window, with loan signings more likely.

After a great deal of money was spent in the summer window, it is Tim Steidten who finds himself under pressure at The London Stadium this month.

The Irons’ technical director is responsible for too many questionable transfers during the summer, with the squad unbalanced in terms of numbers available in different positions.

Given most of the squad have failed to impress this term, there is too much money that has been wasted to sit on the bench in East London.

Marcus Rashford could be the answer at West Ham

West Ham have been credited with interest in a move for Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford during the January transfer window after he expressed his desire to explore opportunities away from Old Trafford [Graeme Bailey, 9 January].

Furthermore, an exit for the striker looks even more likely after Samuel Luckhurst reported via X on 11 January that Rashford has not travelled down to London with his Red Devils teammates ahead of their FA Cup tie against Arsenal.

If the 27-year-old was to make a move, it would likely be on a loan basis initially with his parent club covering three-quarters of the player’s wages [Graeme Bailey, 9 January], which would make this a suitable fit for the East London outfit.

Potter is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements ahead of the second half of the season with Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio out injured as well as Niclas Fullkrug being withdrawn against Aston Villa on Friday (10 January) through injury too.

With clubs like AC Milan interested in the Englishman, the Hammers are going to have to work hard if they are to pull this deal off but if it did happen, it could certainly change the course of Steidten’s future at The London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, one Hammers flop could be set for an exit after a Manchester City development.
