Potter will get his wish as West Ham launch Deossa transfer bid
Graham Potter has every right to be frustrated with the transfer business at West Ham so far this summer.
The former Brighton and Chelsea boss would have been hopeful of lifting his team further up the Premier League table this term, but their window hasn’t matched that ambition so far.
The result of Lucas Paqueta’s FA hearing has provided some positive news for West Ham, but it has been a largely disappointing couple of months in E20.
David Sullivan is running out of time to help Potter, with the Hammers getting their 2025/26 campaign underway in just over two weeks.

Potter to get midfielder as West Ham make £13m Nelson Deossa bid
Potter’s priorities for the remainder of West Ham’s window have now become clear, and a new midfielder is seen as one of the most important late additions by the 50-year-old.
The duo of Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez have been largely unconvincing, while Paqueta could yet be sold. Beyond that, Potter’s only real senior options are Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse.
The Hammers lack energy and mobility in the engine room, and as such, it is clear to see why Potter is desperate to add another fresh face in that area of the pitch.
However, it now looks as though the boss may be about to get his wish, as West Ham are making progress towards Nelson Deossa from Monterrey.
The East Londoners are understood to have made an offer to the Mexican side worth in excess of £9.7million, according to Medio Tiempo via X (29 July).
The 25-year-old scored in his side’s Club World Cup victory over Urawa Red Diamonds earlier in the summer, and Real Betis are also believed to have made a proposal regarding his services.
Who is Nelson Deossa?
West Ham fans are no strangers to seeing South Americans at the London Stadium, with the likes of Paqueta, Alvarez, Rodriguez and Luis Guilherme already part of the squad.
Deossa could be about to become the latest to join that contingent, with the Hammers now having a concrete offer on the table for the Colombian.
| Club | Time |
| Atletico Huila | 2021-2023 |
| Estudiantes | 2022 (Loan) |
| Junior | 2022 (Loan) |
| Atletico Nacional | 2023 (Loan) |
| Pachuca | 2023-2024 |
| Monterrey | 2025 |
The Monterrey man is predominantly a central midfielder, although he can play further up in a more advanced role if required.
He notched seven goals and three assists in the Liga MX last season, in what was his second consecutive campaign in the Mexican top flight.
Deossa has had stints in both his native Colombia and Argentina before that, but a move to either West Ham or Betis would represent his first foray into European football.
He will be an unknown quantity to the Hammers faithful at the moment, but he could be set to become their latest star.
