Lucas Paqueta takes West Ham for a ride as ‘official’ reason shared for absence
West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta is only adding to West Ham’s woes at the moment.
Paqueta is understood to want to leave West Ham, in order to return to Brazil, with Flamengo the most interested team.
The Brazilian club have seen West Ham reject a £30.3million bid already, and look set to return to the negotiating table with an improved offer.
The whole saga looks very bad on Paqueta, and the latest developments only make it even worse.

Why Paqueta is likely to miss Tottenham clash
Paqueta’s involvement in West Ham’s clash with Tottenham is in question, as he looks to force a return to his homeland.
Brazilian journalist Raisa Simplicio claimed on 14 January that the 27-year-old is unlikely to play against Spurs.
She stated that “officially” he has a back problem, and that is the reason for his potential absence against Thomas Frank’s side.
Why West Ham fans will be sick of Paqueta nonsense
The conflicting reports surrounding the Brazilian will be frustrating for Irons supporters.
Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg has claimed that Paqueta has reported for training and his entourage are not ruling out his chances of playing in the clash.
However, a back injury is a common complaint when a player is looking to force a move away from a club.
- Paqueta asked to be left out on the FA Cup clash with Queens Park Rangers on 11 January
- He has reportedly already agreed personal terms with Flamengo
- Now, he may miss the trip to Tottenham on 17 January
The Hammers could do without the drama, given that they are fighting for their Premier League status, seven points from safety, with 17 matches left to play.
Nuno Espirito Santo needs players who are committed to the cause, and it is the very least that the fans deserve after paying their money to come and watch every week.
Paqueta should outline his intentions in the media, and confirm whether he is actively seeking to leave or shut down the rumours.
At the moment, he is taking the club, and its supporters, for a ride.
