Jesse Lingard was wrong to not join West Ham in the summer

West Ham are flying; they are cruising in the Europa League and have made great progress in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League.

They have done all of this without Jesse Lingard, who has been relegated to the role as a substitute at Manchester United.

In fact, in the Red Devils’ last five games, Lingard has only played 18 minutes as the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rises.

Meanwhile, David Moyes’ side sit above Manchester United, and it appears as if Lingard is set to be axed from Gareth Southgate’s England squad [Daily Mail].

If he is, then he must be wondering why he didn’t decide to join the Irons.

He was fantastic last season, and the Hammers wouldn’t be in the Europa League this season without him.

Remember, he was described as “amazing” by Rio Ferdinand last season [Vibe with Five].

However, you could argue that this season, he has missed them more than they have missed him.

Now, Lingard could end up back at the London Stadium in January, his contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, and there is no sign of a new deal any time soon.

So if he is cut from the England side and continues to sit on the bench, then will he realise that he made a major mistake and he should have moved to the Irons permanently?

You would certainly hope so, and if in January, the Hammers make a move, he could still be a brilliant signing.

However, they might decide to look elsewhere, and Lingard could end up missing his chance and regretting the summer even more than he probably does already.

In other West Ham news, Carlton Cole has sent a mock warning to Irons fans ahead of the Genk game.
