GSB could undo all good work of 2020/21 as doubt around Lingard deal emerges
Jesse Lingard has been the best thing about the season for many West Ham fans and there probably is not a single Hammer who does not want him to sign on a permanent basis.
Now, supporters might understand if we can’t sign the England international due to Manchester United not being willing to sell or the player himself preferring to stay.
However, that does not appear to be the case, with the Metro reporting Lingard could be sold to create funds for a big signing.
And given how well he has fit in at the London Stadium, West Ham would surely be his number one destination.
We have revived his career and he seems to love his Hammers teammates.
All we depend on is the board providing the money to sign him, in terms of his transfer fee and wages, but that is seemingly where a problem lies.
According to the Daily Mail, West Ham’s financial position is a little precarious.
Our income has been “decimated” and we lost £65million last year, with the sum expected to be even bigger this campaign.
As a result, GSB are reportedly unwilling to commit to Lingard’s demand for a four-year contract worth more than £100,000 a week [Mail].
It appears that working out a deal is proving a little difficult, and with other clubs interested we risk missing out on Lingard.
That would be a massive blow, as he has been a key figure on the pitch and in the dressing room since signing.
He is well-loved by fans and seeing him go due to worries over money would be a familiar story, and one the fanbase is unlikely to accept.
Moyes too should be outraged if the board fail to sign the 28-year-old.
£100,000 a week is not a huge amount given we are chasing European football and if the club is to progress the board must be willing to pay such amounts.
And considering Lingard is a risk-free option, we cannot understand why there is hesitancy.
If the board cannot afford to run the club they should sell-up, as we have been asking them to do for years.
If Lingard goes to a rival and continues his fine form, it will be a slap in the face to every West Ham fan and a betrayal of the good work Moyes has done.
