Graham Potter ‘could be sacked in weeks’ after what has happened at West Ham

Graham Potter has only been in charge of West Ham for a matter of months, though he may already be at risk of losing his job.

West Ham’s season is finished, despite there still being a handful of games left to be played.

Much of that failure was down to the inability of Julen Lopetegui to manage a team effectively, though very little has improved since Potter took over.

Summer recruitment will be key for West Ham, though they will also need to make a decision on Potter, and decipher whether he really is the man to take them forward.

West Ham have not improved under Potter

Defensively, West Ham have looked somewhat more resolute since Potter took over, but attacking-wise, performances have been dreadful.

Potter deserves some slack here, because quite frankly, West Ham are lacking a lot of quality in the forward areas, with the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Evan Ferguson massively underperforming.

West Ham are having a poor season by their own standards.

However, with the Irons winless in their last four, and just three wins in the 12 games since he became manager, there must be some serious doubts starting to emerge as to whether he has the required credentials to take this club forward.

The Hammers are likely to be involved in a big summer rebuild in the coming weeks, and it could prove to be a huge risk to maintain that faith in Potter, especially if a reasonable amount of money is to be spent to bring in the players to suit his system.

There is a possibility that the Hammers look elsewhere and opt to sack Potter at the end of the campaign if things don’t improve.

David Moyes regret may emerge at West Ham

After Lopetegui’s sacking, David Moyes was linked with a return to the London Stadium, though the Scotsman went on to re-join Everton, who are now one place above West Ham in the table.

Moyes has done a remarkable job on Merseyside and seems to have reconnected the fan base with their club.

Compare that to what has happened at West Ham, and it is a very, very different situation.

Focus for now will be on ending the season on a high, but the hierarchy will need to seriously consider whether Potter is the man they trust to take the Irons forward.
