‘Fullkrug calls for Potter to be sacked’ after West Ham draw with Southampton
Niclas Fullkrug didn’t hold back in his post-match interview for West Ham after their 1-1 draw with Southampton at the London Stadium.
West Ham have been absolutely hopeless this season, and they are fortunate that the quality at the bottom of the Premier League has been as poor as it has been; otherwise, it could have been a very different story.
Julen Lopetegui began the regression at the London Stadium, and Graham Potter has done nothing to remedy that since his appointment at the start of the year.
In fact, you could certainly make a case for things being even worse since he came in with the Irons winless in their last six, something Lopetegui couldn’t even manage.
That lack of form, matched with the present threat (albeit minimal) of relegation, could get Potter sacked, and based on Fullkrug’s comments at the weekend, it seems like it wouldn’t be an unpopular decision.

Potter has failed as West Ham manager
West Ham have looked lost all season, and as time has gone on, they have regressed even further under Potter, when very few would have imagined that being possible.
You can make an argument for him not having his own players to suit his style of play, but his style of play has been a painful watchy for the Irons, and it was reflected by Fullkrug’s comments after the Southampton defeat when he called his own team out for a lack of desire and functionality.
Premier League | W | D | L | P |
West Ham | 9 | 9 | 15 | 36 |
The German international was fuming at the way standards have fallen through the floor, and while he has had his own struggles this season, he was right with every word that he spoke.
However, by being honest, he’s indirectly questioned the managerial prowess of Potter, and the general consensus is that the players simply aren’t buying into his project, if that’s what you can call it.
It would be a big call to make, but there is a very high chance that Potter is sacked within weeks at West Ham.

West Ham need a new direction this summer
Not only will there be a decision to make on the future of Potter, but West Ham have a remarkable amount of work to do on the recruitment front if they are to progress.
This summer will be a huge one for the Irons, and they can’t be afforded any margin for error after what has been a dreadful campaign all-round.
