Ferdinand ‘makes bizarre West Ham’ comment live on air amid Potter latest

West Ham United are gearing themselves up for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

Graham Potter will be hoping to get the better of his former club, having previously enjoyed a successful time with the Seagulls before his poor Chelsea stint.

Potter and the Hammers are likely to have a busy transfer window, with several players set for the exit door.

Meanwhile, long-serving midfielder Tomas Soucek is unhappy with the West Ham boss over his lack of game time in recent fixtures.

Anton Ferdinand says Potter is the right man for the West Ham job

The London Stadium club are yet to enjoy a victory since their consecutive wins over Arsenal and Leicester in February.

However, speaking on talkSPORT (25 April, 1.28pm), Anton Ferdinand said: “You’ve got a manager who I think is the right man for the job.

“He’s shown improvements on the pitch, though as we know it’s a points-driven game. It’s why people may not be able to see the improvement.

“But the happiness around the club is a lot better than what it was. I think it’ll be a hard summer in terms of ins and outs. Once Potter can bring in his own players, I think he’s the right man for the club.”

Ferdinand’s Potter comments are bizarre

The former West Ham defender has claimed that the happiness surrounding the London club has improved since Potter took the managerial reins from former boss Julen Lopetegui in January.

However, matters at the London Stadium are at least as bad as they were under the Spaniard – some would argue they’re even worse – as the former Brighton boss has guided the men in claret and blue to just three wins in 14 attempts.

The Hammers appear set to finish just 17th in the Premier League, having landed a top-half spot under David Moyes’ stewardship last season.

Supporters are arguably more unhappy with West Ham since Potter took up the dugout duties, as they had hoped that the Englishman would turn their season around.

However, the London Stadium faithful remain miserable after seeing their side endure a seven-game winless run, which could become even longer if they fail to beat Brighton on Saturday.

Potter should have guided his side to victory over an already relegated Southampton outfit last weekend, but the Hammers instead conceded a last-gasp equaliser.

Ferdinand may consider Potter an upgrade on Lopetegui, and that will hopefully prove the case, but right now the mood is as flat as it has ever been.
