Early West Ham United story shows how far star ace Jarrod Bowen has come

Jarrod Bowen has come such a long way from Hereford United with the West Ham winger taking the Premier League by storm this season.

The England international was a late bloomer in terms of his football career bursting onto the scene at Hully City in 2016 after playing his football at non-league Hereford United.

Last season the 25-year-old performed like a player who was at the peak of his confidence, but the Hammer hasn’t always been so sure of himself.

“The last day (at Hull City) was mad. It was the craziest and most stressful day of my life,” He told Fozcast.

“By the time I’d woken up and travelled to Hull’s training ground the bid had gone in. I had no idea.

“I went into the training ground not knowing this and had gone in to get changed. The manager at the time was Grant McCann and he said ‘what are you doing here?’ He said ‘we’ve accepted a bid from West Ham’

“My stomach just started to feel sick. To get that news, I thought oh my gosh. I didn’t know what to do as I’d never done it before. We had to get a train to Kings Cross and there was me, my dad and my brother thinking this is unreal.

“For the first two weeks at West Ham, I just didn’t believe it. It was like a trial. My first two games were Liverpool away and Manchester City away and I thought, this could finish me.”

Star.

Bowen has played like a man possessed last season – his form has been off the charts as he played a crucial role in all of the Hammers’ success.

His 31 goals in all competitions is some effort for a winger and his levels have only been matched by potentially the best player in the world at the moment – Mo Salah – with the duo the only two players to notch double figures for both goals and assists in the Premier League last campaign.

You would have never thought he was so pessimistic when first making the move to the London Stadium but he wasn’t a star then – he certainly is now.

The confidence is just oozing out of the Irons forward and long may it continue.

There has been some interest from clubs but nothing too serious. Hopefully, when he inevitably establishes himself in England’s set-up – suitors don’t come knocking as they did with Declan Rice.
