David Sullivan’s West Ham exit strategy: How European billionaire could seize total control

West Ham fans could finally be getting their wish regarding David Sullivan’s ownership of the club.

Sullivan and vice-chairman Karren Brady have faced protests this season, with Hammers supporters unhappy with the situation at the London Stadium.

It has now been suggested that Sullivan could take a step back at West Ham, after it was revealed that the billionaire is searching for a new property in Cheshire, more than 200 miles away from East London.

The performances on the pitch have improved since Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Graham Potter, but Sullivan’s house-hunting may hint that he is finally willing to sell.

Daniel Kretinsky could give David Sullivan his West Ham exit plan

Despite being the majority shareholder with a 38.8 per cent stake in the club, Sullivan has been urged to sell West Ham in recent times, with many believing that his methods are now outdated.

David Kretinsky, who acquired just over 27 per cent of the East London outfit back in 2021, would be the natural successor to Sullivan.

It was reported in May that Kretinsky’s wealth had increased by £1.7billion in just 12 months, and there is no doubt that the 50-year-old has the necessary funds to take full control of the club.

However, it remains to be seen whether Sullivan is really willing to relinquish the ultimate power he currently has at West Ham.

West Ham fans would be delighted with change

Sullivan acquired a controlling stake in West Ham back in 2010, but his time at the club has been tumultuous to say the least.

Currently, Hammers supporters are firmly against the 76-year-old’s ownership, and the issue of the London Stadium is a big reason why.

West Ham moved from Upton Park to the Stratford-based arena back in 2016, but the promise of changes to make it a more ‘football-ready’ stadium have never come true.

The situation with the ground, combined with West Ham’s horrific start to the season under Potter, has effectively turned the whole fanbase against Sullivan.

Therefore, supporters would be delighted to see someone new at the helm, and would likely welcome Kretinsky taking full control.
