David Sullivan can forget about funding West Ham United bid if Tim Steidten gets wish

West Ham United could end their interest in Matias Soule this summer if Tim Steidten signs Wesley Gassova from Corinthians.

Gazzetta dello Sport has reported (14 July, page 2) that the Hammers are interested in signing the Argentine amid competition from Roma.

The versatile attacker could cost up to £25.8 million with his departure from Juventus said to be “imminent”.

West Ham have also been heavily linked to signing Wesley with Steidten said to be “determined” to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.

If the sporting director is to get his wish then the Hammers could end their interest in signing Soule due to playing a similar role to the Brazilian.

West Ham to end Mathias Soule interest if Wesley Gassova signs

There is no doubt that the Juventus man could prove to be an excellent signing for Julen Lopetegui this summer.

The 21-year-old scored 11 goals and assisted three in 39 appearances in all competitions last campaign on loan at Frosinone [FotMob].

Soule has the versatility to feature across the front line and in a number 10 position but featured mainly off the right wing last year.

Similarly, Wesley is a 19-year-old who is comfortable on either wing and may be utilised in other positions by Lopetegui.

The young Brazilian has only scored two goals in 16 Serie A appearances for Corinthians this season [FotMob] but has plenty of room to grow.

It does appear that Steidten is keen on adding him to the Hammers’ squad this summer to join Luis Guilherme at the London Stadium.

If the German gets his wish and Wesley comes in, the need to bring in Soule is diminished and other targets in different positions may be looked into.

The Argentine would be a positive addition to Lopetegui’s side but Gassova looks set to be the attacking addition that is selected by the club.
