David Sullivan at fault for West Ham United thrashing against Liverpool

West Ham United were torn to shreds by Liverpool at the London Stadium.

Julen Lopetegui avoided heading into the clash on Sunday (29 December) with crushing pressure on his shoulders after a four-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, and no expectations to get a result against the Reds.

However, what played out in East London would have taken even the most optimistic of supporters by surprise as Liverpool scored three goals in the opening first half on the way to a comprehensive 5-0 win against the Irons.

Not one single Hammers player performed well, Lopetegui looks more out of his depth than ever, and David Sullivan has serious questions to answer.

David Sullivan is the main culprit for the demise of West Ham United

Sullivan misfired tremendously by appointing Lopetegui as David Moyes’ successor, and it is about time the West Ham chairman answers for his costly decision.

The Hammers are heading into the New Year in 13th-place in the Premier League, with the fourth-worst goal difference and a hardly insurmountable nine-point gap to the relegation zone.

However, no matter how sparingly bright the future looks in East London, the Spaniard always finds a way to undo any made progress and escapes the sack by the skin of his teeth.

The Guardian reported on 20 November, that the results against Newcastle United and Arsenal would decide his future, and future replacements were being discussed – no consequences forecame.

Although Lopetegui picked up five points from the nine available against Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton, those games were also considered detrimental to his West Ham future [Sky Sports], yet not one spokesperson has clarified the club’s stance.

The Hammers’ faithful are not concerned with losing to Liverpool, but the manner of the defeat and the lack of fight from the players sum up the Lopetegui era in East London.

He has been living on borrowed time at the London Stadium for months, but for any supporters hoping for Sullivan to take swift action – don’t hold your breath.
