David Moyes must end obsession of signing defensive midfielder for West Ham

West Ham are interested in making a move for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare this summer, according to Daily Mail.

The Hammers are in the market to sign players to strengthen the midfield and have been heavily linked with Lille’s Amadou Onana who is now close to joining league rivals Everton.

As per the latest report, the Hammers are now interested in making a move for the midfielder who is likely to cost in the region of £25 million.

Confusing

West Ham entered the transfer window wanting to sign players on many positions and before the start of the season, they’ve already sorted all of those positions.

However, one position they are still struggling to find a player is the defensive midfield where they have already failed in pursuit of Onana and now, new reports suggest that they are likely to miss out on Sangare as well who has now extended his contract till the summer of 2027.

But it is not clear why there is so much focus on strengthening the defensive midfield position when David Moyes clearly has more than decent options available.

West Ham

Declan Rice is still very much a West Ham player with two more years left on his contract whereas there is also Tomas Soucek who is now an established first-team player for the Irons.

It makes no sense whatsoever that Moyes is keen to splash the cash on a player who is likely to be third in the pecking order.

Therefore, it will be better for the Hammers to focus on other targets and instead sign a more box-to-box midfielder, an area where they are definitely light on options.
