Daniel Kretinsky’s £1.7bn boost can help West Ham keep their promise to Nuno Espirito Santo
Nuno Espirito Santo is in dire need of reinforcements at West Ham.
While his early reign may have positive signs, it is clear that new additions are needed if they are to avoid the drop.
Many of West Ham’s summer signings to date have been awful and have done little to stop the rot that started last season.
Therefore, Daniel Kretinsky needs to take drastic measures to ensure that the Hammers’ Premier League status is retained.

Daniel Kretinsky must use newfound wealth to save West Ham
Kretinsky is one of the major shareholders at West Ham, holding a 27 per cent stake in the East London club.
As a result, the businessman can have a huge impact on the Hammers if he chooses, despite not being involved in day-to-day football operations.
Recently, reports suggested that West Ham have promised Nuno funds to make signings in January, and drag the Hammers out of their dire situation.
- West Ham currently sit in the relegation zone
- The East London club sacked Graham Potter after only one victory this campaign
- Nuno has now been brought in to try and save the Hammers
Now, after it was reported in May that Kretinsky’s wealth increased by £1.7billion in just 12 months, the businessman could be the key to their survival.
Money is often the difference in the transfer market, whether that be in the transfer fee or the wages the player is offered.
Therefore, if Kretinsky chooses to spend his newfound fortune, it could help keep West Ham’s promise to Nuno.
Player | From | Fee |
Jean-Clair Todibo | OGC Nice | £32.8m |
Daniel Cummings | Celtic | Free |
El Hadji Malick Diouf | Slavia Prague | £19m |
Kyle Walker-Peters | Southampton | Free |
Callum Wilson | Newcastle | Free |
Mads Hermansen | Leicester | £20m |
Mateus Fernandes | Southampton | £38m |
Soungoutou Magassa | Monaco | £17.3m |
Spending big in January is no doubt needed, with a massive squad overhaul a must in the coming months.
Therefore, Kretinsky could prove to be the difference for West Ham as they look to retain their top-flight status.
West Ham simply didn’t spend enough in the summer
While West Ham did have PSR issues in the summer transfer window, they simply didn’t spend enough to bring in the quality needed.
In the summer, the Hammers only had a positive net spend of £69million, around the middle of the pack compared to other Premier League sides.

Given how poor the East London club was last season, this simply wasn’t enough, with far too many poor players still getting minutes.
While clubs like Brentford and Brighton have proven you can do well without investing loads of money on transfers, West Ham simply do not have that privilege at the moment, and must make big signings in January.
