Czech newspapers react to West Ham ace Tomas Soucek’s display in win v Faroe Islands
The Czech media have reacted to West Ham star Tomas Soucek’s display in his country’s 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands.
Soucek’s side were two ahead by half-time after Ladislav Krejci opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Vaclav Cerny got his first in the 44th before sealing a brace and the victory with a goal in the 75th minute. The win keeps the Czech Republic top of qualifying group E for the European championships.
Overall, it was a relatively comfortable evening for the West Ham midfielder with the Faroe Islands having just 39 per cent of the ball and not registering a single shot. The Czech media have had their say on the 28-year-old’s performance.

“Classic Suk. He operated in a large space, calmed down the game, ran a lot of kilometres and skillfully filled the spaces in front of the defenders when necessary. Standard solid captain performance,” iSport reported (17 June) as they awarded him a six out of 10 match rating.
Soucek was “one example for all” according to Denik (17 June).
Comfortable evening
Tomas Soucek has performed well since arriving at West Ham during January 2020. In his first full Premier League season he was able to hit 10 goals in the league and was a key part of the club’s European qualification.

However, this season he has gone slightly off the boil with some below-par performances and it is therefore brilliant to see the player regaining some form and confidence with a strong performance for his national side. Still just 28 years of age, the midfielder has plenty of time left to shine as he enters the prime years of his career.
He is often one of his country’s top performers and the fixture against the Faroe Islands was no different. It is worth nothing that this level of opposition is of course incomparable to that of Premier League sides, however, fans will be hoping to see Soucek take this form into next season and hit the ground running.
