Conor Coventry must use loan at Peterborough to prove he is worthy of a West Ham first-team spot

West Ham have sent Conor Coventry out on loan to the Championship with Peterborough United, and this is the perfect chance for him to show what he can do.

The Republic of Ireland U-21 international played in the majority of the Hammers’ pre-season games and impressed David Moyes [West Ham Way].

However, the decision was taken to send him out on loan, with Alex Kral coming into the first team to bolster the midfield.

Now, he should start week in week out for Darren Ferguson’s men, and this is his opportunity to show that he deserves to be in the Irons’ first team next season.

Mark Noble will leave at the end of this season, while there is still speculation over Declan Rice.

So, it is possible that by the time next summer comes around, the Irons are looking a bit short in midfield, and Coventry has to be in a position to stake a claim in that midfield.

Therefore, playing regular football and impressing in the Championship is the only way that he can prove that he should be involved in Moyes’ first team next year.

Remember, the 21-year-old has 13 caps for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21s, while he has made seven appearances in League One.

He has also been described as “excellent” by West Ham Central in the past [Irish Post].

So, he is ready for this step into the Championship, and we hope that he smashes it for Peterborough as he could have a very bright future with the Hammers.

However, this has to be the season in which he makes a lasting impression and then we can see him thrive for the Irons next year.
