Conor Coventry must get his West Ham chance next season after first goal

West Ham United’s midfield might pick itself this season but when next season rolls around it could be a totally different story for David Moyes.

With Mark Noble retiring and Alex Kral set to be sent back to Spartak Moscow after his loan at the London Stadium expires, only Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are left in the senior side.

The former could still leave the club yet with persistent rumours circling around a move away from West Ham.

Some managers might panic at losing three-quarters of their entire central midfield but Moyes has a very capable option who will return to the club for the 2022/23 season.

Republic of Ireland international Conor Coventry has spent the second half of this season on loan at Milton Keynes Dons and he has managed to inspire them to the automatic promotion places in League One since his arrival.

He has quickly become a favourite at Stadium MK and he managed to score his long-overdue first goal for the club, and in senior football, last night as the Dons beat basement club Crewe Alexandra 2-1.

He burst from midfield, in a similar way to Rice’s most threatening runs, to surge into space on the edge of the area before shooting beyond the Railwaymen’s goalkeeper Dave Richards.

It was highly questionable defending and goalkeeping in all honesty from the Alex but Coventry still did all the hard work to get into the right area and deserved that kind of fortune after impressing in the third tier.

It is a big jump from League One to the Premier League but having played on the international stage already, he has proven he is capable of performing in big matches and Moyes needs to put his trust in him to prevent him from leaving for pastures new in the summer.

In other West Ham news, the club are hoping to sign the fastest player in the Bundesliga in the summer as well as one of his teammates.
