Arsenal fan accused of supporting Tottenham after what he said about West Ham ace Declan Rice
Perry Groves claimed an Arsenal supporter was actually a fan of North London rivals Tottenham after his comments about the club’s pursuit of West Ham star Declan Rice on talkSPORT.
The caller rang talkSPORT on 12 June to voice his displeasure at the fee being reported for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, which left host Groves astounded.
Arsenal are reportedly close to agreeing on a fee with their London rivals for their captain which could reach as much as £100million and this particular Arsenal fan was not impressed.

“Let’s say he is as good as (Granit) Xhaka. Look at Xhaka this season, look how good Xhaka was,” the fan said.
Groves’ response was simple but effective, “he is a Spurs fan isn’t he?” to which the caller responded, “I am an Arsenal fan, but I am saying Xhaka had as good a season as Declan Rice so if Rice is £100million, Xhaka should be £80million.”
“If we didn’t get Declan Rice for £100million and we didn’t spend that money you would say they are not backing Arteta,” Groves went on to say.
“Declan Rice would be an upgrade because of the three different positions he could play, the age is perfect, he is 24.”

Overpriced?
It is easy to understand both sides of the argument here from the fan and Groves. £100million is a lot of money to spend on one player and would smash Arsenal’s transfer record. The fan also suggested that the money should be spent elsewhere, and it’s hard to disaagree.
Arsenal do need squad reinforcements in other areas however with Rice their midfield could be anchored for the next five to eight years. Groves is right that if this is West Ham’s price, Arsenal fans should be excited to see they’re matching it and showing some ambition.
It is not unreasonable for West Ham to charge a premium either. Rice is one of the most talented players in his position, young, a captain, Premier League proven and an England international who meets the homegrown quota, he is going to cost a lot.
Ultimately, a move for Rice to Arsenal means all involved would be satisfied and the price is the price, other fans will be saying just pay it and get him in.
