Arne Slot job could be in further doubt as Liverpool at risk of 71-year first vs West Ham

Liverpool head to West Ham United this coming weekend reeling from successive Premier League defeats.

Arne Slot is a man under pressure at Anfield, despite guiding Liverpool to only their second ever Premier League title six months ago.

Liverpool beat Aston Villa and Real Madrid in quick succession earlier this month to seemingly turn a corner, but they have since gone down 3-0 away at Manchester City and home to Nottingham Forest.

West Ham drew 2-2 with Bournemouth last time out in a game they led 2-0, meanwhile, but seven points from the past three games is a massive upturn in form.

The pressure is certainly on Slot and Liverpool when they return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to the London Stadium.

Liverpool have lost each of their last five away league games vs London opposition

Liverpool are a million miles from the team that romped to the title last season and are there for the taking this weekend.

The Reds have lost each of their past five away league games against teams from London, which is as many as in their previous 31.

Not since 1954 have they lost more in a row, and West Ham will be eager to inflict that unwanted 71-year first on their opponents this week.

West Ham look significantly better under Nuno Espirito Santo, whereas Liverpool look completely lost under Slot all of a sudden.

It makes for an intriguing contest in East London, with West Ham potentially having the chance to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, depending on other results.

West Ham have chance to put right their terrible record vs Liverpool

A visit of Liverpool would often be enough to send a shiver down the spine of supporters.

Indeed, West Ham have won just one of their past 18 Premier League games against Liverpool home and away, with that solitary victory coming at the London Stadium in November 2021.

The Reds have won 14 of those other matches, with Liverpool beating West Ham 2-1 late on in their most recent meeting towards the end of last season.

Liverpool will of course be the favourites this coming weekend, but this is as good a chance as any for West Ham to pick up a rare win in this fixture and inflict yet more misery on Slot.
